Taken at the Minnesota State Fair in 2007. This is a portion of the approximately eight-foot-high
(250 cm-high) rear wheel of a restored "Twin City" tractor, a huge steam-powered tractor designed
to tame the American prairie. It is amazing to smell and hear this behemoth.
This tractor dates back to the early 1900s and features absolutely NONE of the amenities -- an enclosed
cab, air-conditioning, air-filled rubber tires, cushioned seat, etc. -- taken for granted on modern tractors.
Farming remains hard work, but one wonders what it was like to spend an entire day on this beast
